When I decided to use a multi-touch surface as the medium for my thesis project. I had no idea how much research i had to do for something you can’t go down to the local Best buy or Circuit City to buy. None of the following information has to do with my Architectural Thesis project. But it’s interesting information from a technical standpoint.
There are currently two popular D.I.Y. methods: FTIR and DI. Seth Sandler has a great explanation post. I’m not going to re-hash it, but I think it’s a good primer, if your interested in building your own DIY multi-touch table.
One of the reasons i’m choosing this as my presentation medium, besides exploring a new presentation mechanism, I think it’s economical. To print a 40″ by 92″ print, is roughly 112 bucks. Two of those large prints, are typical for thesis presentations. With that money, i can purchase most of the materials for a multi-touch table (minus the computer and projector). I also will have a nice dinner table after this is all over.
I will add a list of touch screen project sites to this post for future reference. And also follow up with a summary of the parts, and where I purchased them.

I’m glad you found some use of my blog.
